JEDDAH, 12 April 2007 — Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia topped Group-B with a valuable 2-0 win against Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan in Uzbekistan in the AFC Champions League yesterday. With this result, Hilal now have four points and vault ahead of Pakhtakor, who slipped to second place with this loss. They have three points from the win against Kuwait. Kuwait, who drew with Hilal, has one point.
The first half ended 0-0. But Hilal came on strongly in the second with Omar Al-Ghamdi opening the scoring in the 53rd minute followed by a second goal in the 59th minute by Rodrigo.
Earlier Pakhtakor scored a goal early in the first half but the goal was disallowed with the referee ruling a foul on the Hilal goalkeeper. After Hilal had secured the two goals they fell back to defend and relied heavily on counter attacks.
In the second AFC Champions League match, Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia trounced Ittihad of Syria 4-0 at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
In the Saudi League, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittifaq drew 2-2 at the Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd Stadium in Dammam yesterday.
