Fired Saudi Women Get Back to Work

JEDDAH, 11 May 2007 — The Labor Office in Jeddah has settled a longstanding case of a group of Saudi women who were fired from their jobs at the King Abdul Aziz Hospital, Al-Watan newspaper reported. Qusai Al-Falaly, the head of the Labor Office in Makkah said, “The Labor Office has been successful in solving the issue of the women who were fired.” They have been reinstated after the intervention of the Labor Office.

Young Man Arrested

Police arrested a young Asian man in Taif, who was sitting with a number of other people and was dressed in a Civil Defense uniform, Al-Watan newspaper reported.

On questioning, the man said he had found the uniform near a dumpster close to a Civil Defense center. Local people said the man was mentally unstable.

Child Rapists

MAKKAH, 11 May 2007 — Investigators in the Makkah region are questioning two brothers aged 32 and 34 over crimes relating to the kidnap and rape of young children, Al-Watan newspaper reported. The two men would kidnap young children, take them to isolated places and threaten them with weapons before raping them. Prosecutors have called for the authorities to hand the men severe punishment for their crimes. Police were alerted about the two men after one of their victims reported them to the police.

Drunken Youths Held

HAFR AL-BATIN, 11 May 2007 — Police arrested three youths who were drunk and seized 14 bottles of wine, Al-Yaum newspaper reported. Police became suspicious when the youths tried to run away on seeing them. The youths were chased for about half an hour before they were arrested, a spokesman for Hafr Al-Batin police, said.
