JEDDAH, 14 May 2007 — Famed world-class sprinter Ato Boldon of Trinidad and Tobago will coach the Kingdom athletics team. This was confirmed by Prince Nawaf ibn Mohammed, president of the Saudi Athletics Federation. Boldon, a world champion and four-time Olympic medalist who reigned supreme in the 100 and 100 meter sprints for seven years from 1995 to 2001, will join up with his former coach John Smith, who is in charge of the Saudi track team when he is not coaching his elite athletes in California. The hiring of Boldon is in line with the federation’s high-profile preparations for the World Cup in Osaka, Japan and eventually the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

JEDDAH, 14 May 2007 — Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup winners Al-Ahli defeated Al-Wehda yesterday 23-21 for their second win in as many outings in the Al-Nokhbah Handball Championship. Ahli opened the tournament by crushing Al-Qadisiya 27-21, while Al-Khaleej and Al-Nour called drew 23-23. Al-Nour beat Al-Khaleej 25-24 yesterday.
Taekwondo & Fencing Finals Put Off
JEDDAH, 14 May 2007 — Due to the death of Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed the finals of the 1st Taekwondo and Fencing Championship in Schools have been postponed until Saturday, May 19. The event to be held in the Masters Academy for Fencing and Martial Arts. The championship attracted three levels namely fourth grade students and below, fifth and sixth grade students, and intermediate students from governmental, private and international schools.
