JEDDAH, 20 May 2007 — The new 2007 Jeep Wrangler landed in Jeddah with a spectacular roadshow last Thursday and Friday. The iconic retro-look off-roader, which has adopted a slightly more civilized character in the form of electric windows and electronic stability program on some models, has lost none of its macho image or off-road performance.
“No other vehicle in the world can replicate the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited’s unique combination of best-in-class off-road capability, open-air fun and everyday convenience and versatility,” said Mark Jenkins, deputy general manager for Operations, United Motor Company, commenting on the new four-door model.
The roadshow, featuring interactive displays in specially branded buses and some very exotic driving, began in Muscat in the first week of April and will visit 11 cities in 10 key countries over a 110-day period. While the new Wrangler’s are the stars, the other Jeep models are included in what Fouad Al-Mansour, regional manager for Pentagon Marketing, described as “a real roadshow.”
The four-door configuration is a response to the need for urban versatility combined with off-road ability. One of the reasons for staging the roadshow is that Jeep has made a revolutionary development to the 4x4 segment by taking the classic vehicle one step further for 2007 by adding the first ever 4 door Wrangler — the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, to the range.
“With room for five adult passengers — a Wrangler first — and the most cargo space ever offered in a Wrangler, the Unlimited combines class-leading off-road capability with everyday practicality,” Jenkins said.
Rear seats that split 60/40 and 1.3 cubic meters of cargo space behind the rears seats when vertical gives it more carrying capacity that many of it’s competitors. A new underfloor lockable area keeps valuables out of sight.
The off-road performance is increased by the 4-door Unlimited’s 44.4-degree approach and 45- degree exit angle and a 20.8 breakover angle.
