ABU DHABI, 13 June 2007 — Etihad Airways will begin non-stop services to Singapore in September, the carrier said in a statement yesterday. With three flights a week, Singapore will be Etihad’s fifth Asian destination after Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. The airline will operate to Terminal 2 at Changi International Airport in Singapore.

“The new service will cater for the growing demand for air travel between the UAE and Singapore for business and leisure travelers, which is growing year on year,” said James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ chief executive. On Monday, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, the capital and largest of the emirates, signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the Abu Dhabi-Singapore Business Forum to promote business and investment cooperation.

“The new service demonstrates Etihad’s ambitions to provide our customers with flights to the world’s top destinations, and the creation of the ADSBF will also benefit the airline greatly with the increasing commercial co-operation between Singapore and Abu Dhabi,” he added.

Trade and bilateral ties between the UAE and Singapore continue to develop with trade totaling AED27.9 billion in 2006, compared with AED24.8 billion in 2004.
