RIYADH, 28 June 2007 — Famous Pakistani comedian Omar Sharif will perform live at the Pakistan Embassy auditorium here today. The mega event, called “Omar Sharif Nite 2007,” is being organized by the Riyadh-based Pakistan Social Society (PSS).
“A few local artists have also been invited to perform side by side with the king of comedy,” said Khalid Shafiq Siddiqui, chief organizer of the event.
“Although Sharif who has now taken on a broader subject line, has come a long way as a performer from his early performances, which were very much rooted in the Pakistan mega-city culture; especially Karachi and Lahore,” said Siddiqui.
The offbeat performer is also scheduled to attend a fund-raising lunch tomorrow to support a hospital project in Karachi.
“Within the genre of Pakistani stage comedy, there is none who can match Sharif and there is nothing that even remotely comes close to his performance in ‘Baqra Qistoun Peh,’” said Munawwar Khan, a senior advertising and PR executive.
Tickets to the show can be obtained by calling 0509546340 or 01-2792049.
