JEDDAH, 24 July 2007 — Mobily, Saudi Arabia’s second mobile phone operator, has launched its major campaign that includes staging several sports events during the ongoing summer festival 2007. Dubbed as the ‘Mobily Olympics 2007’, this is the second time that Mobily is participating in the tourism activity by supporting the summer festival’s sports activities, according to Humood Al Ghubaini, Mobily’s PR Manager. “Mobily believes and understands its role in serving society and has great plans to serve society,” he told the media last week.
The company aims to offer opportunities to young Saudis in pursuing and practicing their various sports interests. Abdullah Bakhashab, motorsport developer and organizer of Mobily events, expressed his happiness over the support for youth extended by Mobily. “We have planned competitions including beach football, beach basketball and electronic games,” he said, adding that the events will start from July 25 and continue for 30 days at Mobily sports village, at the external parking area of Al Aziziah Mall in Riyadh, and at the Corniche beach in Jeddah and Alkhobar.
Mobily will offer prizes, medals and cash rewards for the winners in each activity. The winning team of each game will be given the championship cup, in addition to medals and cash rewards. Individual prizes will be for the best player, marksman and goalkeeper. Referees will also be honored.
Mobily has been supporting major projects that include sports and social activities. It started its campaign with the sponsorship of the national team. It has also extended its support to motorsport races organized by international rally driver Abdullah Bakhashab, a promoter of motor sport in this part of the world. Mobily also managed to organize a successful Mobily summer sport events 2006 under the ‘Summer with Mobily is different’ slogan.
