JEDDAH, 13 November 2007 — Famous Egyptian comedian and actor Younis Shalabi, aged 66, died in Cairo on Sunday of heart problems. Shalabi who had undergone several heart operations in recent years, including one in Saudi Arabia, was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Shalabi and his wife had publicly denounced the Egyptian government for refusing to cover his medical costs. The Egyptian Health Ministry finally agreed and bore the expenses for his treatments abroad.
Shalabi got his big break when he was given a role in “Madrasat Al-Moshaghbeen” and “Al-Eyal Kebrat.” He appeared in dozens of movies with leading Egyptian entertainers in a career that spanned decades.
