YANBU, 11 January 2008 — A member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice beat up a guard at a shopping mall after he asked the agent to treat a member of the public with respect.
Abdul Aziz was taken to hospital following the assault and was given seven days off from work to recover. He said the incident occured when he arrested a man who was verbally abusing two girls and took him to a Commission center.
He said the Commission member insulted another man who came to bail out the suspect. “I told him to be polite. He, however, beat me up, tore my clothes and ordered me to leave the center,” said Abdul Aziz, adding that he lodged a complaint with the police.
Fahd Al-Khadir, head of the Commission center in Madinah, refused to comment on the case. —
