German Firms Seek Saudi Partners in Health Sector

JEDDAH, 5 February 2008 — A 16-member medical technology and health care delegation from Bavaria, Germany, is in the Kingdom to explore possibilities to join hands with local health care companies.

“Bavaria is well known for its hospitals and health care facilities and some of the members of the delegation have been meeting local heads of hospitals and health care providers to reach cooperation deals,” he told Arab News. “Our delegates are seeking cooperation with local hospitals for management, technical know-how and exchange programs involving specialists, doctors and nurses,” Wagner said.

Bayern International, represented by Wager, is a service enterprise of the Bavarian state government. Its tasks include promotion and intensification of international activities of Bavarian firms worldwide. Mark Potstada, Riyadh-based deputy delegate of German Industry & Commerce, the AHK/German Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs, said the mission earlier met with hospitals in Riyadh including King Faisal Hospital and Research Center, and International Medical Center in Jeddah.

Svenja Burmann, coordinator for international business relations, management board corporate strategy, of Stadtisches Klinikum Munchen GmbH, one of the five hospitals of Munich-based Klinikum Munchen, said: “We have five hospitals in Munich with 3,400 beds available for inpatient treatment. As many as 130,000 inpatients are treated in these hospitals every year, some of them visiting its oncology, cardiology, neurology, pediatric and diabetic treatment. The pediatric department accounts for 3,600 deliveries per year,” she said, adding that it provides Arabic speaking interpreters.”

The Association of Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce is part of the mission. Andrea Franz, its project manager international, said that membership totaled 750,000 and was supported by 40,000 active members contributing their honorary work and professional skills.

Included in the delegation are German and Arabian Health Services, which offers professional medical services; Biocam Gmbh, an innovative company focusing on the development of systems for diagnosis of tumors and inflammatory diseases of the skin and other organs; Erothitan Holdings Group Ltd., which consists of three companies in Erlangen manufacturing medical devices, implants and instruments in orthopedics and bone surgery; hawo Gmbh, which for more than 30 years has been one of the leading international manufacturers of sealing equipment for doctors, hospitals, dry cleaners and Laundromats as well as industry. Also represented is IMGM Laboratories GmbH.

Others in the delegation are Helga Beinhofer, export manager of Internationale Arzneimittel Ludwigs Arzneimittel Munchen GmbH & Co. KG, Kitalpha Med Ltd, an exclusive distributor of neotonus products in the Arab world, India Malaysia and Europe, Klinium Martha Maria, a hospital that focuses on cancer medicine, especially surgery of lung cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer and cancer of the thyroid; and KSG Sterilisatoren GmbH, MAVIG GmbH X-Ray Protection.
