JEDDAH, 7 February 2008 — A remarkable exhibition of undersea images by Hans Sjoeholm, a Jeddah based photographer, was opened in Serafi Mega Mall on Tuesday. Present at the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony were Shaikh Bandar Bin Fahad Al-Fehaid and Sultan Abu Jaber and Walid Al-Hennanyo of the Arab Tourism Organization.
Taken over many years, the images represent over 26 years of an intimate association with and profound respect for the Red Sea environment.
“This exhibition is for everybody, for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the citizens and for our friends in the Red Sea coral community,” said Sjoeholm during the ceremony. “We have an opportunity and responsibility to educate everybody to protect the environment as it is today for many generations to come.”
The exhibition, set out in low blue light to give an undersea ambience, records in detail the beauty and intricacy of the marine ecosystem. The enormous variety of fish in the Red Sea — from large pelagics to the ever-popular clown fish and the graceful dolphin are all captured in the magic of their natural habitat.
The exhibition is open to the public until Friday Feb 15.
