MAKKAH, 12 May 2008 — Police yesterday arrested a Saudi man who tried to kill his sister with a knife while she was asleep in the family home. The man’s mother, who sustained injuries in the attack, managed to fend him off.
“The man then turned on his mother and hit her head. His younger brother then intervened to save the mother and sister,” a security source told Arab News. The mother then informed neighbors who called police.
Three Saudi Red Crescent teams arrived at the scene and took the mother and daughter to Al-Noor Specialist Hospital in Makkah.
“When police arrived at the house, the man went into the kitchen and threatened to explode gas cylinders there. This necessitated quick intervention by the Civil Defense,” the source said.
Security officers then stormed the flat, detained the man and took him to the police station, the source said.
Doctors at the hospital said the man’s sister had deep wounds on her neck, her left ear was slightly torn and that she had sustained wounds to her right hand. The man’s youngest brother had also been stabbed, the source said.
