KSU sets up chair for family research

RIYADH: King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh has established a new research chair named after Princess Sita bint Abdul Aziz.

An agreement for setting up of the chair for family research was signed between KSU Rector Dr. Abdullah Al-Othman and Princess Sarah bint Faisal at a colorful event at the Women’s Association here on Friday. Others present at the ceremony included Dr. Muneera bint Abdul Rahman, secretary-general of the association, and Al-Jazi bint Mohamed Al-Shedokhi.

Al-Othman described the chair as part of a major research and development program that is being carried out with the support of businessmen to boost the Kingdom’s scientific and technological progress.

“It has received tremendous support from businessmen and philanthropists, paving the way for launching academic chairs for various important topics and today we have established a chair for family research in the name of Princess Sita bint Abdul Aziz,” said Al-Othman.

Under the program, KSU will undertake research in family matters, which would cover parents, children and neighbors that form the community. The new chair will be in the Department of Sociology in the Arts College.

Al-Othman said that under KSU’s research and development program, the concerned departments would conduct scientific and academic research to achieve the country’s strategic objectives to reach a high position in areas of innovation and development to support a knowledge-based economy.

Research chairs are available in areas such as medicine, pharmacology, engineering, computer science, architecture, agriculture, food, water, oil, gas, economy, business administration, law, politics, information, society and private education.

The chairs will be named after individuals or business entities that sponsor them.
