JEDDAH: In cooperation with the Prince Salman Center for Disability Research (PSCDR), the Nazeeh & Wartan anti-littering campaign took on a new dimension with the launch of a unique art competition where children between the ages of 6 and 12 were invited to show off their creativity and help design a special T-shirt.
Participants in the campaign, which was organized by Al-Baik and Coca-Cola, were asked to show what the environment means to them by submitting an illustration, a creative action piece, or a poem, presented on an A3 or A4 sized sheet of paper.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the PSCDR, selected the final winning entries following an extensive selection and judging process. The grand prizewinners will be officially announced at the Magic Carpet Festival, which is to be held from Sept. 15 to 18. Prizewinners will also have their pieces printed on a limited edition of T-shirts, which are to be sold at the festival.
Over 550 entries were submitted during the monthlong competition period and a special gallery was set up at the Red Sea Mall inviting the public to see entries and vote for their favorite ones.
A committee then met to review the drawings and select the best. The winning designs will be printed and sold with proceeds going to the PSCDR.
“Working with the PSCDR is a privilege and we have aligned our mutual expertise to develop the children’s art competition as one of the most innovative features of this year’s anti-littering campaign,” said Rami Abu Ghazaleh, CEO of Al-Baik.
“The PSCDR aims to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities and we are proud to support the center, especially since Al-Baik is a company that is integrated in the fabric of society and we believe it is our role to support initiatives that benefit all sections of the community,” he added.
The PSCDR’s mission is to be a center of excellence for disability research, to conduct and support research which creates knowledge about human development and disabilities and improves the quality of life for the disabled in a way that enables them to reach their full potential.
The main objective of the campaign is to inspire children to adopt the same manners as Nazeeh, who is described as clean and tidy with a nice nature and a sense of humor. He is loved by all for his sweet disposition, smartness and politeness. In turn, he loves everyone and wishes them the best of everything. Nazeeh always performs his prayers on time and being energetic and sports-minded he loves to play basketball and other sports. He also enjoys puzzles and takes part in competitions with friends.
In contrast to Nazeeh, Wartan is lazy, untidy, rude, unhelpful, uncaring and unpopular.
