ABHA: A man whose father and grandfather were Saudis has been struggling without any luck to obtain Saudi citizenship for the last 20 years, something that caused him and his family to lose all rights as citizens.

“Both my father and grandfather were Saudis. Not having the nationality has deprived me and my children from gaining education and accessing medical treatment at government hospitals,” said Abdo Ahmed Majrashi, who was born in the town of Khamis Mushayt in the Jizan region.

“We completely lost our rights as Saudi citizens,” Abdo said, appealing to the authorities to help him regain his Saudi identity.

Majrashi said his grandfather lost important documents about his identity and Saudi citizenship. His father, however, was granted a Saudi nationality in 1982.

“My father worked for an operating company at the airbase in Khamis Mushayt. My uncle was a member of the air force police at King Khaled Base in the south. He had the rank of a soldier.” He added that his father and uncle, upon retirement, settled in the village of Sameel in the province of Samtah, Jizan.

“For no obvious reason. Both my father and uncle’s data was lost from the computer of the Civil Affairs department in Jizan. From thereon, our nightmare began and it continues till today,” he said.

Abdo said having no identity papers has deprived him, his brothers and his sons from having education at government schools, and also from getting medical treatment at state hospitals.

“Because we’ve been unable to go to government hospitals, my wife gave birth to all of our four our sons,” he added.
