JEDDAH: Malls across the Kingdom are hosting “Your Health Is for the Country,” a three-week nationwide campaign to educate and screen citizens and residents.
About 200 doctors are manning 20 booths set up for the purpose. The teams participating in the campaign include doctors, nurses and volunteers who are trained to communicate with the public and inform them about health care.
The booths are set up to screen women for breast cancer, offer meningitis vaccinations, check teeth and test for diabetes.
Salih Al-Zahrani, manager of the Primary Care Pharmacy at King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital and who is in charge of the Rational Use of Medicine Booth at the campaign, said that there is a need to raise awareness among storing medications at home to protect children.
Dr. Sabah Binafif, the general organizer of the campaign, said the event has been organized to send a message to the public to take care of their health.
Binafif said a number of programs were under way, including programs to combat drug abuse and domestic violence.
She added that young men, who are supposed to be one of the targets of the campaign, are not allowed in malls where the campaign is under way. “This is a problem that we need to tackle,” she said.
