RIYADH: Khalid Bin Saud Al-Shobily, a real estate executive, secured the highest number of votes in yesterday’s Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) election.

“The number of votes that I received reflects the voice of the majority and support for my election agenda,” said Al-Shobily.

An RCCI statement announcing the results of the election said that Al-Shobily got 2,499 votes in the 12-candidate list that was divided into two groups: Commerce and Industry.

Other winners in the Commerce Group are: Abdulrahman Al-Jeraisy (2,050), Khalid Al-Muqrin (1,648), Sami Al-Abdulkareem (1,430), Abdullah Balsharaf (1,423) and Saad Al-Ajlan (1,340).

The winners for the Industry Group are: Saad Al-Khruaif (2,368), Ahmed Al-Rajhi (2,324), Abdulaziz Al-Ajlan (2,291), Saad Al-Moajal (1,805) and Fahad Al-Hamadi (1,776).

“Al-Jeraisy, the RCCI’s current president, got elected but he could only manage to grab the sixth position,” said an RCCI statement.

None of the three women competing for election to the board won positions on the 18-member panel. Huda A.R. Al-Jeraisy secured 778 votes; Amal Muhammad Badruddin 340 votes; and Basimah Muhammad Qasmah 250 votes.

However, one of the defeated women candidates, declined to be downcast. “What’s happened is not a disaster, rather it was a helpful experience,” said one of the women candidates, who did not want to be named. “We are not very concerned on hearing the news that we could not clinch any seat on the RCCI board.”
