JEDDAH: The Al-Ahli Soccer Academy has signed a five-year contract with former Dutch star and youth trainer of Ajax Amsterdam Simon Tahamata starting form May 1.
Talal Rajab, secretary-general of the board of trustees at the academy, said that Tahamata would be an excellent addition to the academy because of his great experience as a player in Europe and as a coach in Ajax. Tahamata played four seasons for Ajax Amsterdam (1976-1977 till 1979-1980).
In 1982 and 1983 he played played for Belguim outfit Standard Liège during that period they won the league title. In 1984, he returned to The Netherlands to play for Feyenoord. In1987 he was back in Belguim and played for Beerschot and Germinal Ekeren.
Tahamata finished his career as an active soccer player in 1996.
Tahamata visited the academy a couple of weeks back to review the facilities before returning to Holland where he will stay till his finishes his contract with Ajax.
