TAIF: The Taif Literary Club yesterday decided to reconstitute its women’s committee after expelling all five members because of their alleged absence from the club’s activities for the past several months.
They are also banned from attending functions in the region as official committee members of the Taif Literary Club, said Ahmad Al-Bouq, supervisor of the women’s committee.
“The board of directors of the club took action against the women members after their continuous absence from club’s activities for between eight and 12 months. There is no point in allowing them to continue as members of the club as they cannot promote cultural and literary activities among the region’s women,” Al-Bouq said. The committee will be reconstituted with new members to revitalize it, he added.
The expelled members include Wafa Khankar, Naila Lamfun, poet Latifah Qari, story writer Sarah Al-Azuri and Muzinah Al-Ghalbi. In a complaint submitted to Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal earlier, they said Al-Bouq had sidelined them and later prevented them for several months from participating in the club’s activities, including the Okaz Fair and other cultural activities for women.
Al-Bouq, however, denied the accusations saying he never interfered in decisions made by the women’s committee. “A supervisor is just a link between the women’s committee and the club’s board of directors,” he said.
