JEDDAH: Police raided two commercial offices registered for the transportation of used cars abroad as part of a crackdown on criminals who allegedly used the business as a front to export stolen vehicles.
Lt. Nawaf Nasser Al-Booq, spokesman for Jeddah police, said 12 Sudanese men and a Chadian were arrested. “The criminals used to steal cars, change their chassis numbers and transport them outside the Kingdom,” he said, adding that the gang had smuggled out a large number of cars.
“The security forces who busted the two offices captured 36 cars which were being modified for export. All of those arrested had criminal records,” he added.
