JEDDAH: More than 100 paintings are being showcased in an exhibition opened by Hanan Faisal, a notable Saudi painter, at the International Arts Gallery in Jeddah’s Al-Hamra district. The event is drawing art lovers and critics in the Kingdom, as women’s painting exhibitions are somewhat rare in the Saudi society.

“Hanan Al-Faisal’s works display an array of deep personal sentiments — ranging from joy to sorrow, gratitude to frustration — depicted in a riot of colors,” a local art critic said. Another critic said that Hanan uses colors in a special way to diffuse an aura of feminineness pregnant with the dreams and disappointments peculiar to women.

Although comparatively a late entrant to the world of painting, Hanan has held exhibitions in various art galleries in the Kingdom and abroad, including Italy, Taiwan, Yemen, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates and won several medals for originality and excellence.
