JEDDAH: The Administrative Court in Jeddah has postponed a hearing into a case filed by a Saudi citizen that the Ministry of Commerce exceeded its authority in canceling a court ruling against a man who gave him a SR13 million check that bounced.
The court adjourned the hearing until June 2 as the ministry’s representative failed to show up at the hearing.
Khaled Al-Adyani, who filed the case, accuses the ministry of abrogating a ruling against the man who handed him the check. Under the original verdict, the defendant was to serve one year in prison, slapped a fine of SR50,000, and his assets were to be auctioned off.
Al-Adyani claims the ministry released the man from prison after five months and lifted a freeze on his assets.
“The Administrative Court accepted the lawsuit after it became convinced by the evidence I presented. However, the absence of the ministry representative obliged it to postpone the hearing,” said Al-Adyani.
He said he fears the defendant may register all of his properties in the names of his relatives and declare himself bankrupt before the next hearing on June 2.
