PUNE: A violent mob of more than 500 alleged activists of Tableeghi Jamaat on Sunday attacked and torched about 25 houses of migrant Qadiani sect workers in Kach Bunglow in Padegaon area situated on the Aurganabd-Nashik Road. More than 30 people were also injured in the clashes that followed. Many Qadiani families panicked and fled their houses to other adjoining districts.
Speaking to Arab News on phone from Aurangabad yesterday, police inspector Khushalchand Baheti of the Special Branch of Aurangabad said that the clashes were more out of a land dispute rather than of communal kind.
Baheti said that the Qadiani families had migrated from Satara district near Pune, a few years ago and were working as laborers. It is likely that they were converted after being lured for money by the leaders of the Qadiani community. Baheti said that it is suspected that a powerful lobby of builders from amongst the Jamaat had instigated the mobs to attack the Qadianis and grab their prime lucrative priced lands by making them to flee from their places.
