MANAMA: With the anticipated rush of Saudi visitors this weekend, Bahrain authorities have deployed a special team at King Fahd Causeway to facilitate traffic movement.
Starting today Bahrain is hosting the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2009, which is expected to attract thousands of foreign visitors. The island is also hosting the first ever Bahrain Boat Show International at Amwaj, which is also attracting Saudis in large numbers.
“We have set up a special team at the causeway that will ensure a smooth flow of cars and trucks. All entry of vehicles will be monitored by our team that is equipped to deal with any emergency situations,” said Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Sabah Al-Khalifa, general director of traffic.
He said a team of 16 officers and 195 noncommissioned officers was formed for the three-day race.
Last year, Saudis topped the visitors from the region with a 40 percent turnout.
