MANAMA: For the third time in less than three months, miscreants set fire to a classroom at Al-Naim Boys Secondary School in the capital. School authorities informed the Civil Defense who extinguished the fire before it could spread.

“Police are investigating the incident and trying to identify those behind the blaze. We are adopting a zero tolerance approach against these miscreants. If any student is found to be involved he will be expelled from the school,” the Education Ministry said after the incident.

Officials said there were 14 arson attacks last year on educational institutions.

In another development, police arrested a man in connection with a car bomb blast in Daih village that claimed a life.

Driver Ali Abdullah Ahmed is in critical condition and has lost his eyesight; his passenger, Moosa Jaffar Khalil Ebrahim, died on the spot.

A special team of experts inspected the crime scene and found metals, pieces of plastic, three batteries, a screwdriver and wires around the car.

CID Director-General Isa Al-Musallam said a Bahraini man has admitted involvement in the blast. “The deceased and the survivor who is injured were planning a terror attack,” the official said. Al-Musallam has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

The Interior Ministry has announced tougher laws against saboteurs who illegally manufacture pipe bombs.

Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa said during a recent meeting with MPs that saboteurs burned 32 cars, and 420 tires and trash bins in the last two years.
