AL-JOUF: A woman and her three sons drowned in a water hole formed due to heavy rains in Mushar village in Hail on Thursday.
The family was out picnicking in the countryside when one of the boys slipped and fell into the pool of water. Two of his brothers also fell in the water while trying to rescue him. The children’s mother then drowned when she tried to help them, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.
A passerby, who saw them drowning, alerted the Civil Defense.
“A Civil Defense team reached the site. But by the time the team arrived, a civilian rescue party had plucked the dead bodies from the pond. The bodies were taken to King Khaled Hospital in Hail,” said Lt. Abdul Rahman Al-Jihani, spokesman for Hail Civil Defense.
Heavy rains during the past few days have wreaked havoc in Hail and Al-Jouf areas. Roofs and walls have collapsed and electricity supplies disrupted in Sakaka city and other Al-Jouf villages.
Power outages have forced several commercial establishments, including fuel stations, to close. Traffic signals were not working at some places. People were forced to use candles at night in several towns in the region.
