JEDDAH: Gold’s Gym Grand in Jeddah had its official opening show for its big martial arts academy, Legendary Heroes, last week.
The show was led by its founder Mohammed I. Abbas along with the other instructors in the academy, Mirage, Saber and Ammar.
They demonstrated their styles of martial arts, karate, Shaolin Kung Fu, Silat and Wushu Kung Fu. There were weapons forms for the sword and spear.
Selected students demonstrated some great fighting techniques and styles of general Mixed Martial Arts and weapons disarming.
The highlight of the evening was the academy’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition in Saudi Arabia. The winner was one of the academy’s students, Ahmed Shehabeddeen, after some real tough ground style fighting, Gracia Jiu Jitsu Style. The show was topped off with some Capoiera sparring between instructor Rizwan and one of his students.
This academy is considered as the best martial arts academy in the Middle East and Africa. It is fully equipped and can take up to a hundred students at a time.
The martial arts styles represented are karate, Kung Fu, judo, Silat, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Capoiera, Muy Thai, Mixed Martial Arts and Parkour. And for the first time in the world, a member can attend all classes for all styles with their instructors seven days a week with one membership card and one fee. This is also the first time in the world those styles are found under one roof. All of this was the idea of Abbas who also designed the logo for this academy.
At the show’s end, Abbas and the rest of the instructors thanked Gold’s Gym CEO Makarem Batterjee and Operations Manager Eizer Richards for their solid support for the academy that soon will be the biggest and best in the world when Gold’s Gym expands around the Kingdom.
Abbas ended the show by saying “We are not copying the West or the Far East, rather using and combining their existing martial arts styles to nourish our youth, then get back to what we were once upon a time in the Arabian peninsula, legendary heroes.”
