IYWA hosts career guidance program

JEDDAH: Indian Youth Welfare Association (IYWA) organized a career guidance program in which speakers from different faculties and professions provided information on various courses and job prospects.

Indian Consul General Sayeed Ahmad Baba, speaking as chief guest, exhorted the students to know the strengths of democratic India that offered tremendous scope for both higher education and jobs.

While recommending government services including Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service, he urged parents to allow their children to select the course and profession of their choice.

“Career options are plenty today and one can specialize in any field that may interest a student,” he said. Baba also released a CD on “Career Guide” prepared by IYWA, which contains information about courses, universities, colleges in India and abroad, as well as scholarship programs and a list of universities, colleges and institutes that provide admission to expatriate students.

Consul for Education and Cultural Affairs Shakeel Ahmad said the consulate had been conducting examinations for Open University students. IYWA Patron L. Ramnarayan Iyer urged parents to extend full cooperation in the ongoing bid to promote education among the community. Rasheed Ameer, HR consultant for Center for Information and Guidance India, Jeddah chapter, Dr. Zaid Ahmad Ansari, assistant professor, commerce department of Jeddah Community College at King Abdul Aziz University (KAU), Mohammad Rizwan, a young graduate who completed his school from Jeddah, Dr. Shakeel Chisty, a medical professional, Sara Ali of the faculty of computer science at College of Computing and Information Technology at KAU, and Wazir Akhtar of the faculty of English language at KAU gave presentations on their respective streams of faculties and professions.

IYWA also honored Zarina Sultan, physical director at International Indian School-Jeddah for her 19-year service, and Mariyam Siddiqui, topper of this year’s CBSE Grade XII exam.

Representatives of Jeddah Community College, KAU, Effat University, Batterjee Medical College, Sikkim Manipal University, Millennium Institute of Technology and Management, and Saudi German Institute of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences interacted with the student community in a bid to help them select the course of their choice.

Principals of international schools, academics and founders of educational institutes and trusts were among those present at the program sponsored by Ibrahim Khalid Est. for Refrigeration, Air-conditioning Accessories and Parts.
