RIYADH: Health officials anno-unced three more cases of swine flu yesterday, bringing the total number of reported cases in the Kingdom to 48.

An 18-year-old Lebanese girl and a Saudi boy, 12, tested positive for H1N1 in Riyadh while the third case was a 53-year-old Filipino woman in Jeddah.

“The three cases were patients who had contracted the flu from the infected people,” an official from the ministry said, adding that such incidence can be avoided if people stopped visiting patients. “People must cooperate with the authorities to combat the disease.”

Khaled Al-Mirghalani, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, told Arab News 39 swine flu patients have been discharged from hospitals as of yesterday. “Our doctors are doing their best to send them home soon after recovery,” he noted, adding that most reported cases were mild and they recuperated sooner than expected.

He said the ministry operates a toll free telephone line (800-249-4444) to provide information to the public regarding swine flu. A panel of experts is stationed at the center to help callers.
