JEDDAH: Police in Jeddah arrested a Somali maid who stole SR300,000 worth of jewelry from her Saudi employer.

“A Saudi woman informed police that jewelry kept in her bedroom safe was missing. On checking the safe, the police did not find any evidence of forceful entry and were led to believe that a key had been used,” said police spokesman Lt. Col. Suleiman Al-Mutawae.

Al-Mutawae said police suspected the woman’s 21-year-old Somali maid who was in the Kingdom without an iqama.

“The maid then admitted to the crime and said she was helped by two Somali men who were also in the Kingdom without iqamas. All of them were arrested and the jewelry was retrieved,” he added.

Al-Mutawae warned against employing people who do not have proper documentation, saying such people are difficult to trace.
