RIYADH: Three Asian expatriates were recently arrested for forging iqamas and other official documents in Riyadh's Raudah district.
The Special Task Force, an arm of the Riyadh police, arrested the three in separate sting operations. Detectives set up the raids following a tip off that one of the suspects, a barber, was secretly distributing fake iqamas and health cards to overstayers.
The detectives noticed that a second man used to bring the documents to the barber. At the time of his arrest, the second man was carrying a number of new and old forged iqamas, some of which were clear. The third man handled the technical side of the forgery operation and had converted his room into a studio where he would forge documents with the help of computers, a scanner and embassy seals.
This man was making health cards when police raided his room. Officers seized more than 1,100 fake health cards that were under preparation. The officials also seized 70 false stickers of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which he used for spuriously endorsing documents. The detectives also found 16 forged iqamas, several passports and 20 driving licenses in his room.
