AL-JOUF: The oldest death row prisoner in Tabuk, who has been in prison for around 21 years waiting execution, was pardoned on Saturday.
The man has been on death row after being found guilty of murdering an army captain in the Al-Jouf district. Sheikh Saud Al-Yousuf, head of Tabuk courts, said the victim’s widow and daughter pardoned the man solely for the pleasure of god without seeking any blood money.
The daughter, Fatima, said her father was killed when she was eight months old. “My mother and I decided to pardon the killer seeking reward for my father. People offered to give us blood money ranging between SR1 million to SR100 million but we refused,” said Fatima.
She further commended Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan for his role in securing the pardon.
On his part, the man thanked all those who were involved in his case. “I am planning to visit Makkah after more than 21 years in prison,” he said.
