Briton attempts suicide in hotel

JEDDAH: Police here believe that a bout of New Year’s Eve depression caused an unidentified British national to threaten suicide from a hotel on Madinah Road. According to a report in Friday’s Al-Watan newspaper, hotel staff called police after hearing a man shouting from inside his hotel room. Police managed to calm the man down and convinced him to step away from the window. The report did not mention if the man was arrested or held for observation.

Alkhobar fire claims two lives

ALKHOBAR: Two workers were killed and three others injured in a fire at a commercial building located on King Khaled Road in Alkhobar in the Eastern Province late Thursday, a local daily reported on Friday. The Civil Defense received reports of the fire and people trapped inside the burning building. The fire was extinguished before it spread to other buildings.

Student stabbed to death

TAIF: A high school student was murdered on Wednesday when he was stabbed, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported on Friday. Police received a report from a Taif hospital of a student who arrived at the hospital in critical condition with stab wounds. The student later died in ICU. Police arrested a 20-year-old student involved in the fight.

Motorbike thieves nabbed

AHSA: Ahsa police arrested a gang of five Saudis, aged between 17 and 23, accused of stealing motorbikes from motorbike repair shops, Al-Jazirah reported on Friday. Police received reports from a motorbike shop claiming three motorbikes were stolen. Police found that some of the stolen motorbikes had already been sold in the used market. Police tracked down the suspects and arrested them. The thieves allegedly confessed to their crimes.
