“Compensation will be given for homes, shops, warehouses, farms, furniture, equipment, livestock and other types of property lost or damaged in the floods,” the Jeddah governorate said.
As part of the compensation scheme, Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed met on Monday representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Finance who are members of the committee estimating damages.
During the meeting, Prince Mishaal was presented with updates about the work being carried out by the 20 technical committees assessing damages.
According to the governorate, 715 people whose homes were damaged have been given a week to complete necessary paperwork.
Compensation will be handed out at the Civil Defense building in Sharafiyah district and a list of beneficiaries will be posted at the offices of the assessing committees in Quwaizah district. The lists will also be published in local newspapers.
The governorate also said damages to the over 9,000 vehicles that were damaged in the floods would be assessed starting Feb. 20.
Brig. Muhammad Al-Qarni, spokesman for the Civil Defense, said the Ministry of Finance is still paying the cost of living and accommodation for many people left homeless following the floods.
“A total of 9,341 families are still benefiting from the funds,” he added.
He also said 10,785 homes were damaged in the floods.
“The payments will be in check form and 200 individuals would be handed checks every day,” he said, adding that building owners will receive compensation for damage to buildings, while tenants will receive compensation for damaged furniture, electric equipment, rugs, clothes and books.
Meanwhile, the emergency maintenance center of the Technical and Vocational Training Board in Makkah has repaired 485 homes in Jeddah.
The homes belong to both Saudi nationals and foreigners.
