Schily said he wanted to further strengthen the already excellent relations that his country has with Saudi Arabia by exploring new business opportunities.
Schily, who was a member of Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's Cabinet from 1998 to 2005, is currently on the supervisory board of German Consult, a group that represents a number of German companies.
He said he was looking for business opportunities in Saudi Arabia, especially in the security sector. Other sectors that he was exploring in the Kingdom were health, waste to energy and solar power.
Schily said he had been highly impressed by the topics discussed at the JEF, which, according to him, was a good place for networking and meeting representatives of different companies.
But the German leader was critical of Neal S. Wolin, deputy secretary of the US Department of Energy, who left soon after delivering his paper in the first plenary session on Feb. 14. "He should have stayed a little longer," Schily said.
One of the meetings that Schily held in Jeddah was with the representative of Binladin Group. He is hopeful of signing deals with Saudi companies based on the discussions he held in Jeddah.
