POA president Arif Hasan said Tuesday that the games will now be held in the host city of Peshawar from Dec. 25 after initially being scheduled to run from March 25-31.
Hasan says the parents of participating athletes were worried about security.
The National Games are the biggest domestic sporting event in Pakistan and more than 3,000 athletes take part. There are 26 men's events and 12 women's events in sports such as badminton, table tennis, volleyball and athletics.
Six policemen and a driver were killed in Pakistan in March 2009 when armed gunmen attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team's bus during a test.
