The downpour was particularly heavy on Shabha village, which is 80 km south of Umluj and other nearby hamlets.
According to residents, the rain fell for eight hours continuously from 3 p.m., causing a number of valleys to flood, including the Haradh valley. Traffic and people were prevented from entering or leaving Haradh village. Many schools in the area were also closed on Wednesday.
The valleys of Al-Mahraf, Al-Hafir and Al-Majni also flooded, cutting off the road to Al-Shabha village and preventing people from going to work.
The Al-Ais village, 50 km away from Al-Shabha village, also witnessed heavy downpours on Tuesday evening that hit a number of villages and hamlets in the region.
The rains brought traffic on the Al-Ais-Yanbu Road to a standstill.
Until late Wednesday, the Civil Defense was trying to recover vehicles trapped there and to stop people from entering the valleys.
The Civil Defense, however, did not report any casualties or serious damage to properties.
Yanbu residents took advantage of the weather to take their families out to enjoy the pleasant climate and beautiful scenery following the rains.
“The best time to go out is when it rains. We are able to see springs and water coming down from mountains in addition to the lakes and greenery,” said resident Abdullah Al-Alwani.
Ali Al-Zahrani, a professional photographer, said photos of natural scenery are usually taken when rain falls. He did warn residents to stay away from flooded valleys to avoid accidents.
