Now you may be asking yourself, why is Arab News, an English language newspaper, writing about an Arabic magazine? But perhaps the better question isn’t why we are writing about an Arabic publication, but rather why such a publication, which focuses on tourism, is not also offered in English?
Many of the tourists who visit the Kingdom read and speak English. Statistically, it makes more sense to have it in English so that it may have a wider reach and touch a larger demographic. By being printed only in Arabic, Tirhal is limiting its exposure and thus, its influence.
Saudi Arabia is a diverse country with many hidden treasures. Besides the intriguing customs of its people, the Kingdom’s physical characteristics are also very attractive. Few people are aware that the Kingdom experiences all four seasons and has an assorted geographical composition, from mountains and rivers, to islands and coasts. Each terrain is accompanied by a unique culture that is as diverse as its landscape. So whether you’re an adventure junkie or simply want a serene escape for the weekend, the country offers a haven for either desire.
The difference with Tirhal is obvious. Unlike most magazines that devote their pages solely to the promotion of touristic services, such as the best seaside restaurant to eat at, or the ideal hotel to stay in; Tirhal is a content-driven approach that emphasizes heritage and culture as its priority through well-researched and investigative articles. Although it still includes lifestyle themed reviews of such contemporary attractions, the magazine’s main objective is to highlight the preserved traditions that enrich the Kingdom as a country of colorful culture.
As part of the SCTA agenda to endorse the Kingdom’s various districts and provinces, Tirhal also hopes to create a broader understanding and awareness of tourism within the Kingdom and its population. From exclusive experiences of unexploited destinations to traditional social customs, Tirhal is a must-read for those wanting a comprehensive view on the “Then & Now” of Saudi society in a creative and engaging manner.
