Several independent newspapers said Monday that the warning was made during a parliamentary session in which lawmakers were questioning the police over their response to protests earlier this month.
The reports quoted Interior Ministry adviser Hamed Rashed as saying police have the right to shoot at protesters if they attack security. Ruling party members reportedly urged ministry forces to shoot next time.
Plainclothes security men knocked down and dragged protesters during an April 6 rally demanding reforms before November's parliamentary elections.
Police said the protest was illegal.
