The SR79-million project is expected to complete within 18 months, according to Saeed Bafohaid, director general of bridges and tunnels at the municipality.
"The main track of Prince Majed Street at the intersection with Sari Street has been closed for 18 months from (last) Thursday," he said.
Under the project, a north-south overpass leading to Sari Street with three lanes in each direction, with a width of 3.3 meters will be constructed on Prince Majed Street.
According to Saeed, all the arrangements have been taken in cooperation with the contracting company to avoid traffic bottlenecks due to closer of the main track of Prince Majed Street and some of the nearby streets.
"The new traffic arrangements, by making use of several service roads in the area and traffic conversions, were in place in accordance with a study carried out by a specialized agency in this respect to mitigate traffic bottlenecks to the minimum," he said.
