The West Bank-based body said that the Arab Bank closed the branches of Gaza City and Khan Younis without prior consent.
It added that the fine is the biggest since the establishment of the authority but did not define its amount.
The development came several days after the Amman-based Arab Bank decided to terminate the jobs of 70 percent of its employees in its three branches in the Gaza Strip, which serve around 20,000 customers in coastal enclave. Palestinian sources said that 70 employees, out of 103, were sacked.
The Arab Bank said in a press statement that the two branches were “closed due to hard work conditions in Gaza Strip,” without elaborating.
Gaza economists were quoted as saying that there might be other reasons behind the Arab Bank’s decision.
According to the sources, Israel decided on April 13 to discharge the Arab Bank of an accusation that it was involved in financing armed Palestinian organizations.
