Brig. Gen. Ahmed Gharib of the Kurdish forces, formally known as peshmerga, says one of his men was taken into custody by Iranian border guards on Monday.
Gharib says Lt. Fakhruddin Mohammed disappeared from his post shortly after Iranian guards opened fire on the border outpost in Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region.
Gharib on Saturday did not give the reason for the incident.
The mountainous Iran-Iraq border region has been the scene of sporadic clashes between Iranian forces and a Kurdish separatist group.
