The honor was among several awards that the airline collected at a ceremony in the German city of Hamburg.
The airline's global ranking among more than 200 international airlines rose to number three in the world, up from fourth spot last year.
The Doha-based airline, which remains one of the select few carriers with a Skytrax five star ranking, also claimed an award for having the best overall business class. The airline's business class catering was recognized separately as the best in the world.
It also became the first airline to receive a staff excellence award in the Middle East category.
"It's extremely gratifying to be honored with these achievements, which recognize the outstanding efforts of our employees in the air and on the ground, as we look to offer the highest levels of service and consistency across all levels of our operation,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al-Baker.
“To be considered among the top three airlines in the world is a huge achievement for Qatar Airways and takes us one step closer to our collective goal of being recognized as the best airline in the world. Clearly, we are heading in the right direction."
Qatar Airways VP Paul Johannes was in Hamburg to collect the awards on behalf of the airline.
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said Qatar Airways continued to impress with its high global standards.
