All of them — expatriates in their 20s and 30s — have been charged with forging government documents and helping overstayers. “The men were arrested after we received a tip-off about their activities,” said a police spokesman.
He said the men used numbers from expired documents to make fake documents. Several forged passports and iqamas were also seized during the raid. The men have confessed to counterfeiting documents and are in police custody while investigations continue.
Police have also arrested four men in connection with a series of burglaries at homes and rest houses mainly in the Al-Hamra and Granada districts of the city.
“We also solved six burglaries cases,” said the police spokesman, adding that the burglars stole jewelry, electric items and other household appliances.
Police are presently questioning the men to ascertain whether they were involved in other crimes. The burglaries took place during the day when house owners are usually at work.
Police said they were also looking for the men’s other accomplices and have issued warrants for their arrest.
Police have also intensified the number of patrols in the city following a recent increase in crime. Twenty-four members of an Arab gang was recently arrested for robbing 40 stores in Riyadh, Qassim, Hail and the Eastern Province.
