“Saudis are still ranked the first among the residents of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries visiting Dubai. Last year we received 414,000 Saudi tourists and we hope this year to break the barrier of half a million tourists,” said Talal Al-Suwaidi, a DDTCM official.
In a workshop following the press conference, the two bodies unveiled this year promotions and deals being organized to promote Dubai as a summer destination for families. A delegation from the DEPE presented the attractions of Dubai Summer Surprises, the Gulf region’s biggest summer event that will run this year from June 17 through Aug. 7.
The new events this summer include international cartoon stage shows such as “Dora the Explorer” (July 5 – 21), and “SpongeBob SquarePants” (July 22 – Aug. 7). Additionally, the signature events for this year will feature World of Stories (June 18 – 29), the Middle East Junior Chef of the Year (June 23 – 29), Sheila and Abaya Fashion (July 1 – 10), The Collectors Exhibition (July 11 – 22) and Kids Olympic Games (July 25 – 31).
