For many years, the focus was on high-end pieces with rare stones. These one-of-a-kind works of art made us forget that jewelry is meant to be worn. Nowadays, the jewelry scene is vibrant and brimming with creativity as a new wave of designers is bridging the gap between high-end and mass-produced jewelry.
Hourani creates collections in limited quantities, which reflect her personality and craftsmanship. In fact, her pieces have been shown in galleries, museums, department stores and boutiques around the world. Worn by film stars and royalty such as Queen Rania of Jordan, Queen Sophia of Spain and Queen Fawzia of Malaysia, her pieces transcend fashion and are timeless and trendy at the same time.
Her stylish jewelry is attracting a lot of younger people as well who look for pieces that bring a sense of individuality — an original expression combined with a skilled craftsmanship — for an average price range.
Each one of Hourani’s jewels is either one-of-a-kind or part of a limited edition that is the cornerstone of her collectable jewelry, which is handmade and assembled in her Amman workshop. Furthermore, every collection is engraved with unique symbols or “my own calligraphy,” she says. These signs — original marks of her individuality — are precisely what distinguish Hourani’s jewelry from any other jewelry.
Hourani is mostly inspired by her country’s rich and diverse heritage as well as its landscape. As a matter of fact, every collection reflects the traditions and civilizations of the past. She blends precious and semi precious stones with gold, silver, brass and copper in an unusual manner — a know-how based on her long-standing experience and background in art. The colorful stones mingled with the graphic glamour echo the ancient etchings and drawings adorning Jordan’s desert caves.
Hourani has been designing jewelry since 2000, but her love for jewelry goes back to her childhood days. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, two diplomas in jewelry design and gemology from GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and a Master’s Degree in Product Design from Instituto Marangoni in Milan.
She acknowledges the important role her family played in her decision to open an art gallery. Her mother, in particular, was a great help since she opened the first private art gallery in Jordan in 1990. Furthermore, her father, a well-known politician with a passion for photography, acted as a guide and mentor through her formative years.
Her pendants, which swing and flow, the dangling necklaces and beautifully shaped bracelets with intricate grid patterns of symbols, ooze her signature. They also highlight the designer’s imagination and passion for gems and materials.
Hourani’s jewelry has a unique vibe, a mix of style and luxury. Easy to wear and possessing a fresh and trendy approach, the pieces beg to be bought and worn.
