Four Saudi youths held for robbery
n  JEDDAH: Police officers in Riyadh announced on Thursday the arrest of four Saudi youths in their early 20s on charges of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and theft in connection to the carjacking of a taxi. Police pursued the men who fled the stolen taxicab after being spotted. Then they broke into a nearby house, but the owner spotted them. Both the homeowner and the taxi driver then identified the four. The cab driver had been stabbed in the hand by one of the assailants as his car was being stolen. Police said the found two bottles of distillate in the vehicle.
 
New flyovers will help ease traffic
n JEDDAH: The newly constructed flyovers and underpasses in Jeddah would facilitate traffic in the city, said Mayor Adel Fakieh while opening the bridge at the junction of King Fahd Road (Sitteen) with Ghartana Street. “We have been working on these road projects during the past several years and have now started enjoying the fruits of those projects,” he added.
 
JCCI introduces new forum for interaction
n JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has introduced a new forum where local traders can meet with the chamber’s board of directors to exchange views and present their problems. JCCI Chairman Saleh Kamil said the new forum would also involve former chairmen and vice chairmen as well as prominent Jeddahwis.
 
IQMO extends help to 35,000 students
n JEDDAH: The International Qur’an Memorization Organization, an affiliate of the Muslim World League, has supported more than 35,000 students at Qur’anic schools in different parts of the world, according to its annual report. It recently signed an agreement with the World Endowment Authority to establish a special endowment to support Qur’anic studies.
 
Jobs for women   to be notified
n RIYADH: The Ministry of Civil Service will give details of 11,552 vacant jobs for women in the education sector on Saturday, Al-Riyadh Arabic daily reported on Thursday. The ministry said preference would be given to those women graduates who applied for jobs last month through its website.
 
Health department punishes erring staff
n RIYADH: The Health Department in Riyadh has punished 199 staff members employed by health centers in the region for being negligent in their duties, Al-Jazirah Arabic daily reported on Thursday. The action was taken after the department’s supervising team found that the officers were absent when it inspected their centers.
 
Free medical camp in Jeddah today
n JEDDAH: Pakistan Welfare Society will organize its regular Free Medical Camp on Friday (July 2) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the premises of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah. Specialist doctors will diagnose the patients. Medicines will be provided free of cost to needy patients. Ultrasound and echo of heart will also be done upon the advice of doctors.
