Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj. Gen. Atthar Abbas told Arab News on Sunday, “Kabul is seriously considering Pakistan’s offer to train Afghan troops at various Pakistan Army’s training centers.
“We hope to receive a formal request from the Afghan government soon ì Initially, Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaque Pervez Kayani had put forward Pakistan’s offer to President Hamid Karzai.
“Later, the officials exchanged details about several training programs which Pakistan had offered to Afghanistan.”
Gen. Abbas said, “It’s easy to train an infantry man in a maximum of six months but the training of officers requires more than two years.”
He said the Afghan government finds it convenient to have its forces trained at various Pakistan Army training centers.
Gen. Abbas said Karzai initially agreed to send Afghan Army officers for training in Pakistan.
At present, Pakistan and Afghanistan are working out the modalities of training programs. Conflicting reports have appeared in several publications on Pakistan’s proposal for training Afghan Army.
