The festival is being held at the Prince Fawaz district along the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway.
Amal Al-Zahrani, chairman of the organizing committee, said the festival is being held at this time of the year to attract as many visitors as possible. “The festival is on an area of 2,400 square meters which is air conditioned and has all safety requirements,” she said.
She added that products made from dates — such as mamoul, sweets and Qasim Kaleejah — will also be on display. “Selling started on the first day of the festival to give companies coming from far-off areas such as Hafr Al-Batin, Al-Ahsa and Qassim a chance to sell their products,” she said.
Amal said the festival is an opportunity for date companies to sell last year’s produce and prepare for this year’s harvest, especially since the hot temperatures these days have allowed dates to ripen quickly.
She added that large plasma screens have been installed at the site to demonstrate the various stages of production and processing.
