“We’ll be responsible before God and coming generations if we do not work to make Makkah one of the most beautiful and modern cities in the world,” the governor told a meeting of top executives.
He said Saudi Arabia has the potentials to achieve this goal. “We have a strong and determined leadership that provides all-out support to this direction. We have also enough funds and good people who are capable of achieving this objective.”
Prince Khaled said the new Makkah transport system should consider the ongoing development works in the city and ensure smooth movement of pilgrims and visitors to and from the city, using modern transport systems and advanced technology.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with officials of Albalad Alameen Company and investors in the transport sector, Prince Khaled said the 20-year development plan for Makkah would give utmost importance to public transport systems in the city.
“We have completed two years of the plan that begins from the Holy Kaaba, which receives millions of faithful every year,” the governor pointed out. He stressed the need to implement all transportation projects in the city in an integrated manner linking them with road networks of Jeddah and Taif.
Earlier, Makkah Mayor Osama Al-Bar, chairman of Albalad Alameen, gave a presentation about the company’s transport projects in Makkah and the holy sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah. “Our company will call tenders to implement a number of projects shortly with the private sector support,” he said. Albalad Alameen was established to carry out giant projects in Makkah and its board of directors includes representatives from the private and public sectors.
